Andreas Gronauer

is an expert for digitalization in agricultural engineering. As university professor at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, where he heads the Institute of Agricultural Engineering, where they develop sustainable solutions by integrating "high-tech" into agricultural engineering processes.

Prof. Gronauer leads the project DiLaAg - "Digitization and Innovation Laboratory in Agricultural Sciences", a cooperation between the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, the Vienna University of Technology and the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna, a project initiated by the Province of Lower Austria. The main objective of this initiative is to form a scientific nucleus in the field of digitization in agriculture. This includes both the training of young scientists at doctoral college, as well as an innovation platform for digitalization focused research, development, training and consulting.

Andreas Schmolmüller

At INNOVATE Andreas Schmolmüller is responsible for the topics of digitalization, innovation, events, and communication in the area of agriculture and forestry. He is a phytomedical scientist with a focus on digitalization, geomatics, and meteorology.  

He supervised numerous research projects in South and Central America, Sri Lanka and Europe, in particular Austria.  

 As an expert for digitalization in agriculture he is a freelance lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria. In addition to remote sensing, he focuses on climate change and its consequences for agriculture and forestry. 

Andreas has a strong practical orientation and always approaches applications from the farmers' point of view. His big vision is climate-smart agriculture with greater value creation for farms at the same time.

ANGELIKA RIEDL

Angelika Riedl is INNOVATE expert for data-driven innovation and has been working in the field of digital innovations for about 10 years. For about 2 years now she works as a consultant for data services in the big data lab at Know Center GmbH in Graz. and has been working in the field of digital innovations for about etwa 10 Jahren im Bereich Digitaler Innovationen tätig. Davon 2 Jahre als Consultant für Data Services im Big Data Lab des Know-Center in Graz. 

After graduating in strategic innovation management, Angelika Riedl worked as a consultant for mobile technologies and mobile digitalization for several years. Later, she dived deep into the development of data-driven business models and data platforms, working in for large corporation in the logistics industry. In addition to her professional activities, she is a frequent lecturer at various universities and colleges, teaching in the areas of innovation, creativity and technology. 

At INNOVATE she is responsible for the development and implementation of the Know Center services and works closely with the relevant research areas.

ANNA KATHARINA BEYER

Anna Beyer is responsible for INNOVATE’s innovation network, events and communication. She is an urbanist with a background in business administration specialized on public administration and logistics. Through her interdisciplinary hands-on master she was able to gain extensive practical experience in different European countries.

She is an experienced forensic expert in the field of Austrian white-collar crime as well as in the conception and facilitation of ideation processes in national and international contexts.

For years, she has been dealing with the topic of mobility, exploring ways to regulate the microclimate through greening measures, and is involved in organizing and conducting hackathons. She is enthusiastic about strengthening regional, sustainable value creation processes.

ERICH GAFFAL

Erich Gaffal is INNOVATE expert for digitalization and sustainability in forestry and the wood-processing industry. He is head of the Building Innovation Cluster and an expert in the areas of furniture industry, the development of collaborative projects and the organization of major events. In addition, Erich Gaffal has methodological skills in moderation, innovation consulting and facilitation.

Frederike KORTH

Frederike Korth is INNOVATE expert for digitalization in agriculture and project manager. She is a staff member at the Institute of Agricultural Engineering at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna, and has been continuously expanding her competencies for digitalization in agriculture in recent years. She has an interdisciplinary background holding a PhD in the field of nitrogen cycling in coastal waters.

In the project "DiLaAg - Digitalization and Innovation Lab in Agricultural Sciences" she is responsible for project management. DiLaAg focuses on interconnecting the competences of the three partner universities (University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna, Vienna University of Technology and the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna) and making new technologies applicable to practice. Another focus is the innovation platform of DiLaAg, which aims to establish a link to practical enterprises, as well as serving as a company network.

Hans Peter Kaul

Hans Peter Kaul is an expert in digitalization in arable farming and a university professor for crop production and grassland management at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences, Vienna. In addition to research projects related to innovations for the productivity and environmental compatibility of agricultural production systems, he has established studies on the use of digital technologies at his institute in recent years. Here, drone-based spectral sensors and cameras are used to observe crop stands and derive tools for decision support. Management tasks are, for example, in the field of nitrogen fertilization of cereals or selection for disease resistance in plant breeding.

Julia Faustmann has been part of the Innovate team since June 2022.

Previously, she worked in business development at PwC Austria, where she discovered her passion for developing business strategies and plans. At the same time, she fine-tuned her intuition for economic trends and future market developments.

KATHARINA GANGL

Katharina Gangl is INNOVATE expert for digitalization in Austrian SMEs. She holds a PhD in psychology with a focus on social and economic psychology. Katharina Gangl's empirical research is strongly guided by theory and follows a multi-method approach based on neuro-, field-, lab-, and online experiments, survey studies, qualitative interviews, and free association techniques.

Katharina is the author of the recent study "Digital Competencies of Austrian SMEs". Her study has identified some action points and she brings in this knowledge as INNOVATE expert for digitalization strategies in the SME sector.

KEVIN MALLINGER

Kevin Mallinger is INNOVATE expert in the field of digitalization in agriculture. He leads the Complexity and Resilience Research Group at the COMET Competence Center SBA Research and is a researcher at the Vienna University of Technology (Data Science).

He is strongly involved in more than 15 research projects and published more than 20 papers in national and international conferences and journals.

His current research and work focuses on the analysis of interdependencies and feedback mechanisms of socio-technical and techno-ecological systems, quantitative and qualitative resilience measurements, design and management paradigms for complex systems and technological measures for climate change adaptation and mitigation. He is increasingly focusing on the study of metrics to detect spatio-temporal patterns and anomalies for the development of early warning systems for sustainable and resilient infrastructure management.

Maciej Oczak

Maciej Oczak is INNVOVATE expert for animal health.

He coordinates the "PLF-HUB", located at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. His task as coordinator is to bundle and promote research activities regarding sensor-based animal health monitoring. The aim of these activities is to close existing gaps in the use of "technologies" and the "animal sciences".

Maciej Oczak is life sciences engineer with more than seven years of experience in the field of "Precision Livestock Farming", acquired in the Netherlands, Belgium and Austria.

MARTIN RIEGLER

Martin Riegler is INNOVATE expert for digitalization and innovation in the wood and forestry industry, translating needs into technological problems and identifies promising solutions.

Martin Riegler holds a doctorate in wood technology (BOKU Vienna) and is team leader for wood-based materials and digital transformation at the Wood Competence Center, as well as cross-sectional topic leader for digitalization topics. A close cooperation with involved universities allows access to a large network of infrastructure and expertise.

Michael Iwersen

Michael Iweresen is INNVOATE expert for digitalization in dairy farming.

He is head of the working group "Precision Dairy Farming" at the Department of Herd Management of the University Clinic for Ruminants at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna. Through his education in agricultural science and veterinary medicine as well as leading activities in a dairy farm with about 600 dairy cows, Michael has accumulated extensive knowledge in the area of cattle management, especially in herd management and reproduction of farm animals.

NIKLAS WEICHBOLD

Niklas Weichbold is responsible for the topics of digitalization, innovation, events and communication in the forestry and timber industry at INNOVATE. He completed his forestry studies at BOKU Vienna and is currently completing his master's degree in Wood Technology & Management there.

In his studies, he specializes in the market analysis of wood products, market-oriented innovation processes and the use of new technologies in the forestry-wood value chain. 

Born in Styria, he gained his practical experience through working for some Austrian forestry and wood processing companies as well as his agricultural and forestry education at the HBLFA Raumberg-Gumpenstein.

NINA HAMPL

Nina Hampl is INNOVATE expert for digitalization and energy management, especially in the area of business and behavioral science issues.

Nina Hampl is a senior researcher at the "Energy & Strategy Think Tank" at the Institute for Strategic Management at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and Professor for Sustainable Energy Management at the Institute for Production, Energy and Environmental Management at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt. Previously, she was a research associate at the Chair of Renewable Energy Management at the University of St. Gallen. She is author and co-author of numerous scientific publications and conference papers and completed research residencies at Stanford University, among others. Her research focuses on social acceptance of renewable energy technologies (especially market acceptance and local acceptance), consumer behavior, business model innovation, and strategic alliances. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a management consultant in the energy & resources practice of an international consulting firm.

Robert Sposato

Robert Sposato is INNOVATE expert for digitalization and the energy industry. He is specialized in behavioral science issues, in particular those dealing with social acceptance. Robert Sposato's other research interests include issues of willingness to pay, consumer behavior and public perception, as well as the engagement around climate change. He works at the Karl Franzens University in Graz.

 He completed his PhD in Environmental Psychology at the School of Psychology, Cardiff University, and worked there as a research associate, as well as at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt, later on. He is author and co-author of numerous scientific publications and conference papers and is currently involved in three major research projects.

REINHARD STREIMELWEGER

Reinhard Streimelweger is INNOVATE expert with technical as well as agricultural expertise.

He holds a Master's degree from the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences (BOKU, Agricultural and Food Economics), as well as from the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU, Business Law). His research topics include smart and precision farming and law in agriculture. Furthermore he his the coordinater of the Lower Austrian “house of digitalization” project for region of Wieselburg.
Seine Forschungsthemen umfassen das Thema Smart- und Precision Farming sowie Recht in der Landwirtschaft. Außerdem ist er Knotenmanager von der Region Wieselburg für das Projekt Haus der Digitalisierung in Niederösterreich.

ROMAN ZEBITSCH

Roman Zebisch is INNOVATE expert for construction and timber industries.

He is a project manager at the Building Innovation Cluster with expertise in national and EU project development. In addition, he has a background in agricultural science, having studied at the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences in Vienna.

Roman is also an experienced as a facilitator of large and small groups as well as seminars.

Stefan Ehrenberger

Stefan Ehrenberger holds a degree in environmental and organic ressources studies with a focus on circular economy, resource efficiency and bioeconomy. At INNOVATE he is responsible for the innovation network, events, communication and funding compass. He fosters a practical approach and supervised numerous national as well as international projects in the field of bioplastics production.

Stefan's big vision is a nature-compatible design of economic systems. Used materials, components and products should be kept at their highest use and value as far as possible and serve as a base for new, pollutant-free products after their primary life-cycle.

Stefan Fenz

Stefan Fenz is INNOVATE expert for the design and implementation of digital value creation projects.

He works as a senior scientist at the Vienna University of Technology, as key researcher at the COMET Competence Center SBA Research and researches in the areas of ML/AI, explainable AI, decision support and semantic systems.

His goal is to make agricultural processes more efficient and resilient by researching and developing novel digitization concepts. Stefan is the author of numerous scientific publications, received his PhD from TU Wien in 2008 and conducted research at Stanford University in 2010.

Thomas Kienberger

As a member of the NEFI Innovation Lab, Thomas Kienberger is INNOVATE’s expert for development of new projects, the demonstration of proven technologies, bringing together SMEs, industry, technology providers and users through digitalization.

Thomas Kienberger was head of R&D and authorized signatory of the startup agnion highterm-research and at the same time worked as a lecturer at TU Graz. Now he is head of the Department of Energy Network Technology at the Montan University and focuses on issues in the area of optimizing energy efficiency of public energy systems and overall systems along the value chain of the manufacturing industry by means of interdisciplinary, systemic approaches.

Thomas Neubauer

Thomas Neubauer is an expert in the field of digitalization in agriculture. He is a researcher at TU WIEN (ISE) and at the COMET Competence Center SBA Research.

He has an academic background in social and economic sciences (MSc), computer science (MSc, Dr.) and agricultural sciences (BSc). He brings in more than 20 years of professional experience in the ICT field, especially the implementation of research and (software) development projects, for example the farm management software farming.software.

He has published more than 100 papers (including two patents) in peer-reviewed journals and at international conferences and supervised more than 150 diploma and bachelor theses. He has been (co-)author of more than 25 research projects. His interdisciplinary research focuses on the field of digital agriculture with the aim of improving resilience and sustainability in the sector, using digital technologies.

His research focuses on helping decision makers to formulate an appropriate risk-benefit-cost ratio considering multiple objectives in their investment decisions, using machine and deep learning.

Thomas Schnabel

Thomas Schnabel is INNOVATE expert for digitalization in wood technology and construction. After being trained as a forestry technician and forestry master, he completed a degree in wood technology, specializing in timber construction.

As of 2003, he has been active in teaching and research as a research assistant and project manager in national and international projects at the University of Applied Sciences Salzburg. In the meantime, he completed his doctoral studies at the Institute of Wood Research Munich at the Technical University of Munich. In 2019, Thomas Schnabel took over as head of research for wood and biogenic technologies for the study programs wood technology & timber construction and wood technology & wood economics at the FH Salzburg Campus in Kuchl.

PIA Seeberger

Pia Seeberger is founder and co-president of DIH INNOVATE and INNOVATE expert for digitalization in the energy industry. She holds a degree in Computational Physics from the Vienna University of Technology and works as senior energy manager at the Blue Minds Group. Her passion is the development of new, innovative energy systems and business models.

For almost 4 years, before joining Blue Minds, Pia Seeberger worked as a strategy consultant in the energy division of the Boston Consulting Group. During this time, she implemented and managed projects in the areas of strategy, innovation and product development for various stakeholders in the energy industry. These included energy supply groups, power plant operators as well as oil and gas companies in Austria, Germany, the UK, France, Norway, Finland and the UAE.

Helga Pattart

Helga Pattart is INNOVATE expert for (digital) leadership and digital business models.

Helga Pattart-Drexler is Managing Director at THI Techhouse GmbH and took over as co-president of the Digital Innovation Hub INNOVATE in May 2022.

Previously, Helga was Managing Director at DARWINS CIRCLE, responsible for a digitalization conference of the same name. Before she worked at the WU Executive Academy for five years. At WU, she was responsible for an MBA program in executive education and developed as well as executive programs in Germany and for international corporations and organizations. She also brings in experience from various corporations and companies in the field of HR and personnel strategy.

Alpen-Adria-University Klagenfurt, Insitute for Production, Energy and Environmental Management

The Department of Sustainable Energy Management at the Institute for Production, Energy and Environmental Management at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt deals with economic and social science issues related to renewable energy technologies. An interdisciplinary team is particularly dedicated to challenges of market acceptance (e.g. purchasing behavior and decisions, acceptance of new business models) and local acceptance (e.g. in connection with the construction of generation plants in communities and regions) of renewable energy technologies. Other areas of focus include the promotion of energy-efficient behavior and issues of individual mobility behavior (with a focus on electromobility and multimodal forms of mobility) and how this can be changed. Digital technologies play an essential role in all these areas.

Examples include digital technologies for citizen participation in the context of energy communities or in the planning process of renewable generation facilities.

Know Center

The Know-Center is a leading European research center for data-driven business and artificial intelligence (AI). Since 2001, it has been supporting well-known companies in using data as a success factor for their business. The Know-Center uses Big Data as well as High Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructures for data analysis. As an integral part of the European research landscape, the center successfully handles numerous projects and contract research at EU and national level. The K1 Competence Center, which is funded within the framework of COMET, is also the leading training center for data scientists in Austria and also offers a range of Kl training and consulting services for companies. The majority shareholder is Graz University of Technology, a key supporter of domestic AI research, whose institutes, together with the Know-Center, handle numerous projects. In 2020, the Know-Center was the only Austrian center to receive the EU's iSpace Gold Award, which has only been awarded nine times in the entire EU.

Building Innovation Cluster (BIC)

The Business Innovation Cluster (BIC) in Business Upper Austria, forming part of the Upper Austrian business agency, is a cross-industry network for strengthening the innovative power and competitiveness of companies. The BIC focuses on innovation along the entire construction, wood and furniture value chain, including suppliers and service providers. They foster projects and cooperation, supporting their partners in the implementation and introduction of new technologies in planning, production and sales. In order to bring more efficiency to the increasingly complex production processes, they also focus on networking between different sectors with R&D facilities.
